NDLEA apprehends Qatar-based businessman and accomplices for drug trafficking.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that its operatives intercepted a Qatar-based businessman, Agu Evidence Amobi, and another individual, Uchegbu Onyebuchi Obi, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Amobi was arrested on December 30 at the departure point of terminal 2 while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha with 1.30kg of cannabis sativa concealed in a bag of foodstuff.
He claimed to have bought the substance in Enugu to deliver in Doha for financial reasons.
Obi was taken into custody the same day for attempting to ship 72,000 pills of tramadol 225mg to Kano on a local flight.
NDLEA officers at the domestic wing of the airport intercepted the tramadol pills with a gross weight of 38.50kg and subsequently arrested Obi.
Additionally, NDLEA operations in Yobe State led to the interception of cannabis sativa and opioids, with arrests made, and in Imo State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial bus on Christmas Eve along Owerri – Onitsha expressway.
Peter Orji, aged 42, was apprehended with 400 bottles of codeine syrup and 7,590 pills of opioids, including tramadol 225mg, while en route to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
On Sunday, December 24, David Michael, aged 52, was arrested in the Unguwa Ukku area of Kano with 49 blocks of cannabis weighing 42.6kg.
Umar Abdullahi, aged 27, was also nabbed on the same day at Gadar Tamburawa in Kano with 27,350 pills of opioids.
In addition, Yusuf Yahaya, aged 45, was arrested on Christmas Eve along the Lagos-Ilorin expressway with 31.00kg of compressed cannabis in a commercial bus traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to Kebbi State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yahaya supplies illicit drugs to bandits in the Kebbi and Zamfara axis.
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), praised the efforts of the officers and men of MMIA, Yobe, Kano, Kwara, and Imo Commands of the Agency for their outstanding work in the past week.
Marwa urged them and their colleagues nationwide not to rest on the achievements of 2023 but to continue elevating their offensive actions against drug barons and cartels.
