Police dismiss allegations of an attack on a Plateau community, stating that the recent event is instead deemed an attempted kidnapping.

The Plateau State Police Command has refuted reports of recent attacks on a community in the state. In a statement released on December 31, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated that contrary to circulating news on various media platforms, the incident at Durbi village in Jos East LGA is not linked to the recent attacks in some Plateau LGAs. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro J. Alawari, clarified that it was an attempted kidnapping and culpable homicide, not an assault on the entire community. Alabo mentioned that the command received credible intelligence about the unfortunate killing of a man and his son by unidentified hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers.
Upon receiving the information, Angware division's DPO, SP Taru Pariku, promptly led a team of police officers to the crime scene. Further investigation revealed that during the incident, the victims resisted the hoodlums. While attempting to escape from the advancing police team, the kidnappers fired at the victims, resulting in the death of one of the hoodlums.
Alabo reported that State Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro J. Alawari, has conveyed his condolences to the grieving family. He prays for the Almighty to comfort their hearts during this challenging time. Additionally, he assures them that the police are actively investigating the case to gather more intelligence that will lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
In a separate development, the Plateau Police chief has emphasized the prohibition of tricycles, commonly known as "Keke Napep," starting January 1, 2024. The ban on all commercial motorcycles, also known as "Okada," remains in effect in the state.
