Montana Passes Bill Blocking Tiktok Downloads

Image
Montana lawmakers passed a bill Friday blocking downloads of TikTok, the most significant action yet by a state yet against the app. The bill, SB 419, makes it illegal for app stores to give users the option to download the app and also illegal for the company to operate within the state. The bill does not, however, make it illegal for people who already have TikTok to use the app. A previous version of the bill sought to force internet providers to block TikTok, but that language was later removed. The bill passed by a vote of 54-43. The bill is now headed to Gov. Greg Gianforte, a Republican, who is expected to sign it. He previously banned TikTok on government devices in Montana. Other states have enacted similar executive orders banning the app on government-owned devices and networks. The bill referred to concerns over data safety, surveillance from the Chinese government and minors engaging in “dangerous activities" as a result of TikTok use including “cooking chicken in Ny

Bola Ahmed Tinubu must be sworn in as President on May 29 — Arewa Elders

Image
A coalition of Arewa elders has cautioned those calling for an interim government in the country to desist forthwith. The elders’ position was contained in a communique read by Suleiman Usman Jere, chairman of the coalition, at the end of a meeting on Tuesday in Kaduna. Last week, the Department of State Services (DSS) confirmed a plot “by some key players” to install an interim government and stop Bola Ahmed Tinubu from being inaugurated as president. The group said those calling for an interim government should be arrested and prosecuted. They also accused Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Datti Baba-Ahmed, his running mate, of inciting the public with their statements. In March, Baba-Ahmed had said the country has no president-elect and that Tinubu would be leading an unconstitutional government if sworn into office because the APC candidate “has not met requirements of the law”. The Arewa elders alleged that the LP candidates were exhibiting “anti-demo

Adesina said this when he appeared on Channels TV on Monday night, April 10. Confronted with verifiable data that between May 2015 and May 2022, over 55,000 Nigerians were killed by terrorists, bandits and armed gangs, Adesina said the President has left the security situation of the country better than he met them in 2015. “The figure has been coming down progressively over the years and it’s a fact of history. Female Gender the most abused

Image
Female education in Africa is often undervalued, with many parents prioritizing marriage over education for their daughters. This mindset needs to change. Women are strong and capable of contributing to society in meaningful ways beyond just taking care of the household. Education can empower them to do so. Furthermore, women are often overused in society. They are expected to take care of the children, do household chores, and cater to the needs of men, all while working just as much as men. This is unfair and unsustainable. Women deserve equal opportunities and respect in the workplace and at home. It is unfortunate that in certain states, women are expected to bear the burden of saving marriages and endure physical abuse from their husbands. They are unfairly blamed for failed marriages and are not welcomed back into their homes. This societal expectation is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. It is imperative that parents learn to welcome their children who have gone through
