A United States company contributes unmanned vessels to Nigeria.

Swiftship, a military manufacturing company based in the United States, has generously donated two advanced unmanned water vessels, namely the S2 and S3 Swift Sea Stalkers, to the Nigerian government. The donation occurred during a recent visit by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
In a statement released on Friday by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Henshaw Ogubike, it was revealed that the minister had traveled to the USA to inspect the facilities of high-tech military hardware companies.
During the presentation of the vessels to President Bola Tinubu, the minister emphasized that these cutting-edge devices would contribute to safeguarding the maritime environment of the country and other vital areas.
The minister specified that the unmanned vessels would be deployed to regions such as the Niger Delta, Lake Chad, and other maritime zones in the country.
The statement highlighted the minister's efforts in promoting innovative technologies during his recent visit to companies like NEANY, Swift Ships, and OCR Global in the USA.
Matawalle conveyed that this initiative aimed to enhance the efficiency of the Nigerian military in addressing contemporary security challenges.
Furthermore, the minister expressed the intention to foster partnerships with US companies for local production of military hardware in Nigeria, collaborating with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria.
Matawalle emphasized that this collaboration would enable Nigeria to acquire knowledge in innovative military hardware production, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to bring peace and security to the nation.
During his briefing to President Bola Tinubu, the minister highlighted facilities he inspected in the US, including a rapid deployment mobile RADAR system, an unmanned water vehicle, a drone ground control station, and a compact biometric search-scan system.
He assured the president that these cutting-edge military and intelligence capabilities would significantly contribute to the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
Reportedly, Swiftships, established in 1942, is globally recognized for providing innovative solutions in shipbuilding, testing, and delivery services. The company also offers hands-on training and lifecycle sustainment support for new vessels.
In March 2022, the United States donated five mobile detection system vans and equipment worth $2 million to the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordinance Disposal.
The equipment was presented in Lagos by Mr. Steward Voit, the Sustainability Manager from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence.
