Earlier today, troops of 16 Brigade Brigade of the Nigerian Army on routine patrol were attacked at Swali market area in Yenagoa metropolis by gunmen. The gunmen numbering about 7 opened fire on troops and one of the bandits attempted to snatch a riffle of one of the soldiers, In the process he was neutralized while others took to their heels. Efforts are on to track them. According to a statement by the Nigerian army, 'there are allegations that these criminals have been robbing people around Swali market for sometime now. Unfurtunately, luck ran out of them when troops closed in on them and recovered the following': a. One locally made pistol. b.Two locally made 9mm ammonition. c. One Itel mobile phone and, d. Men of the Oyo State Police Command on Thursday arrested candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for Ibadan North West/ Ibadan South West federal constituency, Hon. Rotimi Ajanaku. It has been  observed that his arrest came barely two days to the general elections despite the order from the Oyo State High Court to stop his arrest by the police. Our correspondent gathered that the lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Saheed Fijabi, had recently called the police to effect Ajanaku’s arrest for alleged assassination plot on him, though, Ajanaku had described the allegations as political attempt to take him out of circulation. Ajanaku defected from the ruling APC and joined ZLP two months ago and had since been in a running battle with his rival, Fijabi, who had both been contesting the primaries of the party since 2011. Gunmen have shot dead, an All Progressives Congress, APC, chairman in Logara/Umuohiagu ward in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo state, Mr. Ifeanyi Ozoemena.
