According to report, the victim died on the way to the hospital after being granted bail for N50,000. Chuka Nwanazia took to Twitter to share the story of a friend and playmate called Halima who he grew up with in Asaba. He said she was married off to an old Alhaji when she was less than 12 years old. The underage marriage she was subjected to ended up being the cause of her death as she died during childbirth, at the age of 12. A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 21-year-old Israeli student who was brutally raped, burned, and knifed in Melbourne. Aiia Maasarwe, 21, was on her way home from a night out that involved a comedy gig in Melbourne. Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators (CNDA), the umbrella body of militant groups in the Niger Delta, has vowed to resist any attempt to foist President Muhammadu Buhari on Nigerians. It also declared that the people of the region will not support Buhari’s re-election bid. The militant groups warned that the 2019 general election would be bloody should anybody or security agents attempt to rig the polls in the Niger Delta region. FG Seeks $100 Million Broadband Loan From India

The Federal Government has said it is working with the Indian Government to access $100 million concessional loan to develop Nigeria’s rural broadband connectivity. The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, said unveiled at the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day held in Abuja on Thursday night. Shittu said that the loan to be accessed would be part of India’s 10 billion-dollar concessional loans to African countries for the implementation of projects of their national priority. Man arrested with stolen ladies’ pants in Anambra

A 19-year old man, Chinonye Okorie has been arrested in Onitsha with ladies’ underwear, suspected to have been stolen for purposes of rituals. The suspect, who hails from Mbaitolu, Imo State, was arrested by police officers at Odoakpu area of Onitsha in Anambra State. Parading the suspect on Thursday at the police headquarters in Amawbia, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the suspect stole the pants for ritual purposes. Haruna said, “At about 6:48am, Police detectives attached to Central Police Station (CPS) Onitsha arrested one Chinonye Okorie ‘m’ aged 19 years of Ogbaku in Mbaitolu LGA of Imo State. “The suspect allegedly stole a female pant washed and spread on a rope at No. 21 Umuna Street Odoakpu, Onitsha in Anambra State. “He intended to sell the pant to yet to be identified persons at the rate of #80,000 for alleged ritual purpose.” Mohammed added that the pant was recovered from the suspect as exhibit, assuring that efforts were on t

He stated this to journalists in Abuja, after the National Executive Council meeting in Abuja headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday. On when the new Wage will be implemented, Ngige said: “The issue of the minimum wage is a work in progress . Reports reaching Wawa news desk says the Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates eligible to participate in the 2019 General Elections. Punch reports that the list contains the names of candidates for the presidential, senatorial, House of Reps and state Assemblies. The information was contained on the verified Twitter handle of the Commission, @inecnigeria. The presidential candidates’ list features 144 names comprising parties’ presidential candidates and their running mates. Frank Mba has been reappointed as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police. Mba  who studied law at the University of Lagos, takes over from Jimoh Moshood. The police spokesman, who hails from Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was the best graduating cadet inspector in academics at the Police Academy, Kano, in 1993. He rose up the police ladder and was promoted to assistant superintendent of police in 1999, deputy superintendent of police in 2003, superintendent of police in 2006 and chief superintendent of police in 2012. He was one time spokesperson of the Lagos state police command from 2007-2011. He  also served as the Force PRO under the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar from 2012 to 2014.

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has appealed to the Federal Government to accede to current demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by stating the timeline on the promises made. This, the organisation said it would bring a quick resolution to the ongoing dispute between the striking academic workers union and the government. MSSN in a statement signed by the Amir (President) of Lagos State Area Unit, Dr Saheed Ashafa, urged the government to embrace this opportunity to end the strike. Former Nigerian athlete, Kemi Adekoya suspended after falling a drug test

Four-time Asian Games gold medallist and 2016 world indoor 400m champion, Kemi Adekoya who currently represents Bahrain has tested positive for an anabolic steroid. The 25-year-old who was born in Nigeria but switched allegiance to Bahrain in 2014, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for the banned substance stanozolol, the Athletics Integrity Unit has announced. Confirming a ‘notice of allegation’ against the athlete, the Athletics Integrity Unit stated that Adekoya tested positive for the anabolic steroid in November, 2018.
