The Independent National Electoral Commission in Yobe State says it has identified 24 inaccessible areas with security challenges where elections will not hold. Ahmad Makama, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, stated this at a stakeholders interactive session on Wednesday in Damaturu. He said security operatives had confirmed some communities in Gujba, Gulani and Giedam with security challenges that were inaccessible and not conducive for election. Makama said the commission was liaising with the communities for a more accessible alternative polling units to cast their votes. “We are determined to ensure that every eligible voter exercises his franchise, and are therefore collaborating with all political parties and stakeholders for a generally acceptable alternative polling units so that no one will cry foul,” he said. According to the commissioner, 69,000 Permanent voters card had not been claimed in the state. (NAN)

A Kenyan woman has been charged with defiling a 15-year-boy in a police cell where they had been detained for different offences. Appearing at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, the lady identified as Naomi Nechesa Sanyawho is being investigated for the offence of murder denied that she engaged in sex with the underage boy at the Riruta Police Station on Sunday night. State prosecutor Kennedy Panyakotold the court that the accused met the complainant along the corridors of the police station where she had sex with him.  The prosecutor also added that the 15-year-old boy who had been arrested over a drug-related offence could not be detained with adults in the cells.  But the accused denied two counts of defilement and indecent assault, Kenyan Nation reported. According to Twitter user, Lawrence Olanrewaju, who shared the story online, Shalom and the kids were last seen on Friday January 25th at Ajao estate. Since then, no word has been heard from them. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu has reportedly retired all the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs). The affected officers include DIG in charge of Finance and Administration, Maigari Dikko; DIG in charge of operations, Habila Joshak; DIG Information and Communications Technology, Emmanuel Inyang; and DIG in charge of Logistics and Supply, Agboola Oshodi-Glover, the Nation reports. Others are, DIG in charge of Research and Planning, Mohammed Katsina; DIG in charge of Training and Development, Sani Mohammed; and DIG in charge of Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Peace Ibekwe-Abdallah. Unknown gunmen have killed a policeman identified as Sergeant Oisa Monday Ehigie, the police orderly to the Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha local government area, Dr. Eric Osayande. Late Ehigie was shot dead on Saturday night at Nomayo Junction along Upper Sokponba road in Ikpoba-Okha local government. His killings might be connected to the on-going cult war in Benin City in which several persons have been killed in different parts of the State. Itoruboemi Benson Lobia, a man suspected of being the head of a Nigerian pirate syndicate will likely be heading to the Netherlands for prosecution, after the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court in South Africa on Friday ruled in favour of his extradition. Itoruboemi, believed to be the mastermind of a month-long Dutch hostage drama, was captured by SA’s Interpol branch at OR Tambo International Airport last November, while fleeing to Mauritius following his most recent attack. Itoruboemi fled from Nigeria and is wanted in the Netherlands following his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of 11 crew members of a Dutch cargo ship. The crew of the Dutch cargo ship FWN Rapide was kidnapped in April 2018 while travelling between Ghana and Nigeria, held hostage for three weeks before being released following an intensive negotiation process. A Bank Verification Number (BVN) search may have exposed more accounts linked to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen. Detectives are understood to have written three banks for details of the alleged accounts of the suspended CJN. The banks are Standard Chartered Bank, Union Bank and Heritage Bank, according to a preliminary report on the activities of Onnoghen by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and other agencies. The CJN is accused of false declaration of assets. A six-count charge has been filed against him. Further investigation into Onnoghen’s accounts notwithstanding, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the European Commission (EU) yesterday urged caution on the part of the federal government in its handling of his case.
