World Oceans Day raises the profile of the ocean, connects people worldwide, and inspires continuing action year-round to protect and restore this amazing resource that we all depend on. Each year an increasing number of countries and organizations mark 8 June as an opportunity to celebrate our world ocean and our personal connection to the sea. The Government of Canada proposed the concept of a World Ocean Day, at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution officially recognizing 8 June as World Oceans Day each year.  We celebrate World Oceans Day to remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life. Eunie Daisy, a lady residing in Lagos has taken to Facebook to express her gratitude to God after she escaped being killed by a stray bullet that mysteriously landed inside her house in the early hours of today June 8th. Eunie who lives in the Iyana Ipana area in the state, was about to sleep. Few minutes after she moved away from a spot in her house, she heard an object drop. On close examination, she discovered the object was a bullet that pierced through her ceiling.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately issue the certificate of return to the immediate-past Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, as the senator-elect for the Imo West Senatorial District. Justice Okon Abang made this order in his judgment on the suit filed by Okorocha to challenge INEC’s decision to withhold his certificate of return after he was declared the winner of February 23, 2019, National Assembly election in the Imo West Senatorial District. INEC had based its decision to withhold the certificate of return on the grounds that its Returning Officer who presided over the election complained to it that he declared the results under duress. But the judge, who described INEC’s action as lawless and arbitrary, held in that Okorocha having been declared the winner of the election, INEC no longer had any legal authority to withhold the certificate of return due to him. The Appeal Court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has struck out a suit challenging the emergence of the son-in-law to former Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu as the authentic Imo State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 general elections. In his ruling, the Presiding Judge, Justice R.C Agbo, said that the appeal was statute barred in line with the virtue of the 4th Alteration of the 1999 Constitution section 285(12). The missing Oluwakemi Soyebo has now been fund barely 24 hours she was declared missing by her family members, in Lagos. The joy in the heart of her family members and the residents of her street know no bound as she majestically walked into the street, Thursday evening. According to a family member, Sulaimon Adekunle, he Oluwakemi walked home Thursday evening, and has been crying uncontrollably and unable to speak with anybody since her arrival. He said since Oluwakemi has been declared missing, her family members have been engaged by different clerics across the states and several prayer sessions were conducted. “All her belongings including bag containing her ATM cards, money and phones were collected from her. “The mother, Mrs Soyebo Bukola, in ‘tears of joy’ could not speak with Tribuneonline correspondent engaging her,” Adekunle said. He said Oluwakemi who has been continually vomiting, has now been taken to the hospital for medical checkup.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Monday conducted a supplementary Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for 490 candidates whose ComputerBased Test centres were earlier suspended for malpractices and other infractions. The UTME was held in JAMB CBT centre in Kogo, Abuja, JAMB Bayelsa State office, Yenagoa and JAMB National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja. The board said, in its weekly bulletin, that “it was expedient to suspend all examinations at centres earlier earmarked for the candidates based on the lack of capacity of the centres and involvement in examination infractions.” Our correspondent learnt that apart from the 490 candidates retaking the examination, the UTME results of 127 candidates were undergoing forensic analysis by a panel of experts because of the suspicion of examination malpractices. Popular comedian, Babatunde Omidina, a.k.a Baba Suwe, has returned to Nigeria from the United States where he spent the past one month in a hospital at Rhodes Island, near New York, receiving treatment for complications arising from diabetes and other ailments. The comedian arrived in Nigeria a few days ago and at once, visited Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday night to see his benefactor, Rev Esther Ajayi, also known as Iya Adura, of the Love of Christ Generation Church, Cherubim and Seraphim, in company with his son, Sola and younger brother. No fewer than 25, 794 Nigerians may have died in violent crises in the first four years of President Muhammadu Buhari. The figure was released by the Nigeria Security Tracker, a project of the Council on Foreign Relations, a nonprofit think tank specialising in United States foreign policy and international affairs. The number represents those killed by different insurgent groups and Boko Haram in the North, herdsmen, and people who died in extrajudicial activities of the military. From June 2015 to May 2019, our correspondent observed that Borno suffered the highest casualties, recording 9,303 deaths. The state was followed by Zamfara (1,963) and Adamawa (1,529). Others captured in the map are Kaduna (1,488), Plateau (771), Taraba (649), Benue (1,642), Niger (252) Rivers (730), Cross River (467), Ogun (301), among others. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has not published the national and general minimum cut-off marks for placement of candidates into the nation’s tertiary institutions as being speculated in some quarters. The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Wednesday in Lagos. According to him, there is no truth behind such speculations, adding that some persons, whom he described as fraudulent elements, were behind the development with a ploy to defraud innocent Nigerians especially the candidates. Benjamin said the cut-off marks could only be arrived at with the inputs of critical stakeholders in the education sector, scheduled for days ahead. “We want to seize this opportunity to caution the public, especially candidates, not to allow themselves to be swindled by these desperate individuals that are peddling this rumour. “The board is yet to come up with any cut-off mark for placements
