A seven-member panel of the Supreme Court led by John Okoro had restrained the CBN from banning the use of the old naira notes – N200, N500 and N1,000 – from February 10. The apex court made the ruling in an ex parte application brought by three states: Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara. Reacting to the ruling on Friday, Malami said, “I told you the case is still in court, we will obey the court order but we also have right to explain to court the positive sides of the policy. “If you see the negative side of it, you have to see the positive sides. Tinubu promise to eradicate corruption and kidnapping if he win 2023 presidential election .

Image
Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, has suggested that President Muhammadu Buhari has not done enough to clear the "dirt" of corruption, kidnapping for ransom, and other "rubbish" that has plagued Nigeria since the party came to power in 2015.  Describing himself as a vacuum cleaner,  Tinubu, a former Lagos governor and national leader of the ruling APC, outlined  Buhari as a vacuum cleaner who tried to sweep Nigeria's "dirt" (an allusion to many ills affecting Africa's most populous nation, particularly high-level corruption and widespread insecurity). The APC promised to eradicate corruption and insecurity in the 2015 presidential election, but Mr Tinubu stated, "All of us, as Nigerians, have seen leaders. Some of you were not even born when those leaders came to power. However, new leaders emerged from 2013 to 2014, and (they) swept the dirt in 2015. However, the dirt remains on the ground. More sweeping is required. Then I applied

The cancelled meeting comes only four days after the President met with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress after which he appealed to Nigerians to give him seven days to resolve the crisis. Although no reasons were given for the cancellation of Tuesday’s meeting, it has been agreed that no major decision could be taken until the end of the seven-day window given by the President last Friday. 'The person that Adele has always wanted to meet is Dwayne Johnson. I found out he’s a huge fan of yours, too,' he told the Hello hitmaker, who looked overjoyed. Despite teasing that he didn't have Dwayne Johnson 'here tonight,' Noah revealed to the legendary performer that he did have 'someone called The Rock' with him. After grabbing her boyfriend Rich Paul's shoulder, in surprise, Adele stood up quickly and received a big hug from the former professional wrestler-turned-actor, 50.   They embraced each other and shared a friendly kiss on the cheek. China accuses US of indiscriminate use of force for shooting down surveillance balloon that invaded US airspace for days

Image
The Chinese government on Monday February 6, accused the United States of indiscriminate use of force when the American military shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon on Saturday, saying that had seriously impacted and damaged both sides efforts and progress in stabilizing Chinese-U.S. relations. The U.S. shot down a balloon off the Carolina coast after it crossed sensitive military sites across North America. China insisted the flyover was an accident involving a civilian aircraft and was not for civilian purposes but US denied the assertion saying the balloon was maneuverable with propellers. The Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng said he lodged a formal complaint with the U.S. Embassy on Sunday over the U.S. attack on a Chinese civilian unmanned airship by military force.      However, the United States turned a deaf ear and insisted on indiscriminate use of force against the civilian airship that was about to leave the United States airspace, which obviously ove

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday extended heartfelt commiserations to the governments and people of Turkey and Syria, and those who lost family and friends in the recent devastating earthquake in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep. Reacting, Buhari wished those injured a speedy recovery and assured that the prayers and thoughts of Nigerians are with the many affected by this very bad disaster and its aftershocks. As a steadfast friend of Syria and Turkey, Nigeria is ready to provide its full support in any way possible, Buhari said.

Facebook user narrates how he coached his cousin to do illegal business in junior school

Image
My little cousin calls himself, wait for it, Dangote. He's seven, head twice the size of mine but that's another story. In fact I notice he only knows how to sing songs where Dangote is mentioned.  He sings "Dangote, Dangote, Dangote stee dey fine money" thirty-eight times a day. Everything is cute until I go to pick him up from school one afternoon and I hear his classmates calling him Dangote. I'm shocked for real. Like, boy, what the fuck? He just smiles coyly like those shady billionaires do. At home I ask him why he wants to be Dangote and he says because he wants to marry five wives and have plenty mansions. I tell him ka Dangote doesn't even have up to five wives but he says "OK I want to have more than Dangote."  I tell his mom and she starts to get worried but I tell her ka she should chill out. Boy's got mad ambitions and the world is for dreamers. From that day I decide that I will groom him to be the billionaire he is.  I consider c

President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed INEC not to Adjust 2023 Election Timetable

Image
President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the timetable for the conduct of the 2023 general election is strictly adhered to as no adjustment in the dates will be entertained. In the timetable released by INEC, last year, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023, followed by the Governorship and State Assembly elections on Saturday, March 11, 2023. However, there were reports, last week, that the electoral body may shift the polls by a minimum of two weeks due to logistics issues. Key among these challenges is the incessant burning of INEC offices across the country and the insecurity challenges in the South-East and North-East. Also, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had last week expressed worry over the lingering fuel crisis in the country, noting that the scarcity might affect the movement of election materials and election personnel. There are also fears t

At least 640 people conformed dead after powerful earthquake strikes Turkey and Syria

Image
A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday morning, February 6, destroying hundreds of buildings and killing at least 641 people as at press time.   Turkish officials say they believe hundreds were still trapped under rubble, and the toll is expected to rise as rescue workers searched mounds of wreckage in cities and towns across the area. On both sides of the Turkey-Syria border, residents were woken from sleep by the pre-dawn quake on a cold, rainy and snowy winter night. The quake, felt as far away as Cairo in Egypt, struck a region that has been shaped by more than a decade of civil war in Syria. Millions of Syrian refugees live in Turkey. The area of Syria affected by the quake is divided between government-held territory and the country's last opposition-held enclave, which is surrounded by Russian-backed government forces. The quake was centered about 90 kilometers (60 miles) from the Syrian border outside the city of Gaziantep,

Facebook user Nkechi Bianze dishes out advise for married couples

Image
The Facebook user shared how people make marriage sound difficult and unbearable, she wrote   Me: I don't like Eja-Kika. Them: What if your husband likes Eja-Kika? Me: If my husband likes Eja-Kika, he can cook Eja-Kika or buy Eja-Kika at restaurants or from the streets. But, me, when I cook, Eja-Kika will NOT find its way into my pot. And I won't use my money to buy them at restaurants either. Dear Nigerians, Whenever a woman says she doesn't like something, resist the temptation to ask her what if her husband likes that thing. A woman doesn't have to force herself to start liking things she hasn't liked all her life just because she got married to a man who likes them. There are some things my husband likes, which I don't like. And I haven't started liking those things just because we got married. I don't like Eja-Kika. Don't tell me Eja-Kika is dried Fish. Anyone who lives in Lagos knows the exact kind of poor people's fish I'm referring to
