Kogi women take to the streets to protest the renewed political violence

Kogi women took to the streets on Saturday February 16, to protest the renewed political violence that has claimed the lives of residents in Ihima community, Okehi local government area of Kogi state. The protest comes after 15 houses were burnt in the area and many were injured in an act of politically-motivated violence. During the protest, the women cursed the desperate politicians who sponsored the violence. They went on to call for peace in the land. In a video shared online, Hajia Abisetu, while speaking on behalf of the women, said their children have been killed in the violence allegedly sponsored by Okehi Administrator and Commissioner for water resources, Salami Ozigi, adding that they don’t want more of their children to be killed.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of instigating the postponement of the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country to disenfranchise Nigerians. Atiku also said the postponement was a ploy by the Buhari administration to ensure that turnout of voters becomes very low on the rescheduled date in order for his party to rig the poll. Atiku made the statement on Saturday, February 16, following the postponement of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. INEC, had, in the early hours of Saturday, postponed to February 23rd, the General election earlier scheduled for February 16th, 2019. INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu had, while briefing newsmen at the commission’s headquarters, announced that continuing with the election as earlier scheduled for 16th February, 2019, was no longer feasible. Tinsel co-writer dies in auto crash at 30

30-year-old Nigerian scriptwriter, Osang Abang, is dead. The University of Calabar graduate, who worked with M-Net, passed away in a bus accident, on Thursday night, and was buried on Monday. Abang was co-writing content for Tinsel, a popular Nigerian soap opera, before his death. He was also the head writer of the series, BattleGround. Other projects he worked on includes ‘Forbidden’, ‘Hush’, ‘Hustle’, ‘Jemeji’, ‘E.V.E’, and ‘Ajoche’.

2019 elections: Bill Clinton cancels trip to meet Atiku, Buhari, gives reasons

Former US President, Bill Clinton,has canceled his trip to Nigeria ahead of Saturday's general elections, saying the visit could be politicized. He was scheduled to visit Abuja, this week alongside Baroness Patricia Scotland, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. The planned trip was facilitated by the Kofi Annan Foundation and the National Peace Committee (NPC). "Over the course of the last several days, and after various conversations with the different stakeholders, it's become apparent that President Clinton's visit to Nigeria has the potential to be politicized in a way that is not in line with the goals of the Committee.  Therefore, he will not be traveling to Abuja," Clinton's spokesman Angel Ureña said in a statement. Clinton, according to the statement, would continue to support the NPC 's work toward peaceful and fair elections in Nigeria. Clinton will speak later this week with President Muhammadu Buhari, who is standing for re-election,

Another fuel tanker goes up in flames in Anambra

Days after a petrol tanker exploded close to the state governor's lodge killing seven persons , another petrol tanker went up in flames at a filling station along Nnewi-Okigwe expressway, Nnewi, Anambra state last night Monday, February 11th. Although no life was lost in this recent incident, workers and customers at the filling station were said to have escaped by whiskers when the fire started. Speaking on the incident, the fuel station manager, Okeke Patrick, said the incident occurred when the tanker was discharging its product while customers were being attended to. “We were discharging fuel when suddenly we saw fire. We called the fire fighters immediately and they came after 20 minutes interval from Nnewi fire station and put out the fire. It burnt the patrol tank and touched the office block but nobody died or injured.” he said

Makeup artiste stabbed to death while jogging (photos)

An Anambra-based makeup artiste was reportedly stabbed to death while out for an early morning jog in Awka, the state capital on Monday February 11th. According to a friend of the deceased, Chibuike Igwe, who shared the story online, Oluchi who is a popular makeup artist in the state, was stabbed to death by suspected armed robbers who carted away with her phone She died instantly. Her remains has been deposited at the mortuary. Taking to his Facebook page to mourn her, Chibuike wrote ''What a wicked world. Can you believe she is no more. The pictures attached to this post is my friend, a smart hard working lady with great sense of humor .. She was stabbed to death while doing early morning exercise. The persons/people that did this to you will know no peace forever. # Blackmonday . Am still shocked after confirming you are no more. RIP OLUCHI

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has questioned the morality of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s alarm over alleged plans of the ruling party to rig the election.   Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State, during the APC rally on Monday, Oshiomhole said he had evidence of Obasanjo’s use of policemen to snatch ballot boxes. However, he didn’t say if this happened during the election that made Obasanjo President in 1999 or the one that secured his re-election in 2003.   “He (Obasanjo) said he was warning that INEC, Police, Army, every government institution, should not be destroyed. I have the pictures where Obasanjo used policemen to snatch ballot boxes, even here in Kwara State.
