  It has been reported that  APC meeting was going on late Friday in the community when the gunmen stormed the venue and opened fire. The hoodlums who were said to be two in number reportedly operated with a motorcycle. They were said to have quickly zoomed off having completed their mission.   Two persons were confirmed dead while two others are receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki. A court in California, United States of America, has barred dancer Korra Obidi and her ex-husband, Justin Dean, from posting visuals of their children on social media. In a court document dated January 19th 2022, the former couple, who are parents to June Dean and Athena Dean, were forbidden from posting videos, photos or live-stream of their children or any content that have their children in it on social media until further notice. The court order partly reads, "Neither party may post any videos, photos or live-stream the minor children on any social media platform nor allow the minor children to appear in any picture, video or live-stream posted to any social media platform without further Court Order. Neither party may take video, photos or live stream any interaction between the parties in this matter until further Court Order."  Brazil’s World Cup star, Daniel Alves has been arrested over allegation of sexually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub on Dec. 30, police said. Alves, who played for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar,was taken into custody on Friday, the G1 news portal reported, citing the Barcelona police. The defender however denied the allegation. He was taken into custody after testifying on Friday morning at a police station in Barcelona, broadcaster RTVE reported. According to G1, the police have not said why the player was detained during the deposition and there was no initial arrest warrant against him.

 The scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, grew worse across the country on Thursday, as massive queues were witnessed in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Warri, Nasarawa, Minna, among other places. Oil marketers stated that the scarcity became worse due to the fact that dealers could hardly access the product from the only two depots that were dispensing the commodity in Lagos State as of Thursday. CBN Claims They've Been Begging Banks To Take New Naira Notes

 THE Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN yesterday said that it has been begging banks to come and collect the new N200, N500 and N1,000 naira notes. The apex bank also disclosed it stopped withdrawal to curb abuse and adding that disbursement of the new naira notes has been restricted to ATMs in order to ensure access to all bank customers. Director of Legal Services Department, CBN, Mr. Kofo Salam-Alada, disclosed this at a sensitisation programme at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos. Speaking against the backdrop of scarcity of the new naira notes and continued disbursement of old notes by ATMs of banks, Salam-Alada said that the apex bank will penalize banks for failure to collect the new notes and also for failure to disburse them via their ATMs. While appealing to the public to go and deposit their old notes, he averred that there is no plan to extend the deadline for the public to deposit the old notes beyond January 31st. Abia doctors embark on indefinite strike over salaries they are being owed

 Doctors in Abia state have embarked on an indefinite strike over salaries they are being owed by the state government.  Both public and private hospitals in the state have reportedly been shut down over 24-month salary arrears owed doctors and other staff of the Abia State Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH); and 13 months owed their counterparts at the Health Management Board, HMB. This is coming barely a week after the striking doctors barricaded the entrance gate to the Government House Umuahia, demanding immediate payment of the backlog of salary arrears. Speaking to Vanguard, the State Secretary of the Nigeria Medical Association, Dr Daniel Ekeleme, said that the strike was total and indefinite. Ekeleme who revealed that they've already received 98% compliance at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, as doctors stayed away from duty, vowed that they will sustain the measure until Government did the needful.

 Reports that the body of BBC radio editor Aled Glynne Davies had been found first emerged a few weeks ago, but an inquest has now heard that he was indeed found four days after going missing. The beloved father was last seen in Pontcanna, Cardiff, on 31 December. The 65-year-old's body was found near Cardiff Sailing Centre in Cardiff Bay at about 09:40 GMT on 4 January. Aled’s body was found in the water two miles from where he was last seen after going missing on New Year's Eve. INEC delists Ebonyi PDP Gov, NASS candidates

 There is anxiety in Ebonyi following the delisting of People’s Democratic Party(PDP) candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the governorship and National Assembly election. A check by The Nation on INEC’s website shows the governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the party, Ifeanyi Ọdịi and Senator Igwe Nwagu were conspicuously missing from the updated list. The three senatorial candidates of the party, Senator Sam Egwu (Ebonyi North); Lazy Ogbe(Ebonyi Central) and Senator Ama Nnachi(Ebonyi South) were also missing from the list. Five out of the six House of Representative candidates were also not included in the updated list. Those whose names were missing are Idu Igariwey (Afikpo North/South); Jerry Obasi (Ọhaozara/Onicha/Ivo); Ogbonnia Nwanne (Ikwo/Ezza South); Chukwuma Ofoke (Abakaliki/Izzi), and Victor Aleke (Ebonyi/Ohaukwu).  A magistrate court at Runyejes, in Embu County, Kenya on Monday, January 16, 2023, allowed police to detain a man accused of arson attack which left seven members of the same family dead.  On the dawn of October 2, 2022, the suspect, Mr Boaz Wanjala, who was targeting his estranged wife, set ablaze a home in Ngimari village in Embu County, an attack that left grief and shock in its wake. Those who perished were Charles Kariuki, 50 and his wife Catherine Wanjiru, 46 as well as their three children — Joel Njeru, Judy Wanjiku and Maryanne Murugi. Maryanne was preparing to sit the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in November. The couple’s two grandchildren, Tumaini Blessings and Prince Baraka, also died during the incident.  It has been reported that the Abia State Governoship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prof Uche Ikonne may not be standing for the forthcoming election. This is due to his health condition which is reported to be depreciating by the day. He may therefore not be able to contest the Abia guber contest scheduled for March 25th. Ikonne was last seen in public during the G-5 Governor’s rally in Umuahia Nov. 22 last year. His abscence has also reportedly slowed down the party’s campaign in the state. NSCDC Zamfara arrests POS operator hired by bandits

A POS operator simply identified as Mustapha has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Zamfara State for allegedly making financial transactions on behalf of bandits. Commandant of the corps in the state, Muhammad Bello Muazu, told newsmen that Mustapha was arrested in Birnin Tsaba community in Zurmi LGA of the state. Governor imposes curfew over village head murder

 Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area of the state following a violent clash that led to killing of the village head, Mohammed Abdulsafur. This was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Matane, on Sunday in Minna, the state capital. The village head of Lambata was reportedly murdered by some hoodlums on Saturday during a violent clash. Bello directed that a curfew be imposed on the town from 6.00 p.m to 6.00 a.m, beginning from Sunday, till further notice. He said that the imposition of the curfew was to assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation, save lives, and restore law and order. One feared dead as tanker falls in Lagos

 One person is feared dead after a diesel-laden tanker fell on a stationary towing van at Otto Wharf, along Apapa – Oshodi Expressway, Mile 2, Lagos. The accident, which happened in the early hours of today, Jan. 15, also left another person injured, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margret Adeseye, said. Adeseye said it occurred as a result of the barriers introduced by toll collectors in the community.
