With 1.9 million persons now living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, the world’s largest black nation has dropped to 4thposition in global HIV prevalence rate, a new survey suggests. The report is contained in the Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey, which was organised by the Federal Government and funded principally by the United States Government and other relevant stakeholders. Prior to the survey, Nigeria had the second highest HIV/AIDS prevalence with 3.2 million persons having the disease. According to the report, the number of women with the deadly virus is twice the number of men that has it. The state with the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS is now Akwa Ibom. The survey also shows that northern Nigeria has a lower HIV/AIDS burden than the South. It states that while the North-West has the lowest prevalence rate at 0.6 per cent, the South-South geopolitical zone has the highest with 3.1 per cent. Man ended up battling a life-threatening brain infection after using cotton buds to clean his ears. Medics believe that part of the bud got stuck in his ear for five years without any symptoms. However one day the 31-year-old suddenly collapsed after suffering a fit . He was rushed to the accident and emergency department at a hospital in Coventry after falling unconscious. Doctors found that the patient had a bacterial infection, that started in his ear. It then spread to the bone at the base of his skull, before infecting the lining of his brain. The Federal government of Nigeria has banned the Boeing 737 Max aircraft from flying in the country. The decision is coming days after a Boeing 737 Max-8 plane operated by Ethiopian Airlines, crashed in Addis Ababa, on its way to Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, on Sunday. Hadi Sirika, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, disclosed the country’s decision on Wednesday, at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja. At least seven people were confirmed killed on Wednesday when a kerosene-laden trailer rammed into traders on the Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha, Anambra State.   Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesperson for the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, explained that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and knocked down 19 people. He stated, “Police patrol team attached to CPS Onitsha visited the scene and rushed victims to Toronto Hospital Onitsha, where Seven (7) persons comprising of six males and one woman whose identities are yet to be ascertained were confirmed dead by the medical doctor.” He added that 12 other people were receiving treatment, while the bodies of the dead had been deposited at the hospital morgue for postmortem examination. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, says it has opened its portal for recruitment of fresh graduates and experienced professionals into the organization.   The Group General Manager (Public Affairs Division), Ndu Ughamadu established this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Wednesday. He said that the portal for the recruitment was opened on Wednesday. Pandemonium erupted at Itafaji, Lagos Island, this morning, as a three-storey school building collapsed, trapping scores of pupils inside the rubble. The pupils were said to be in their classrooms when the building suddenly caved in and buried them underneath. Already, many of the pupils who were rescued by first responders, had been rushed to the Marina General Hospital. parents have stormed the school searching for their children. An Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) vehicle has been reportedly involved in a crash while conveying some ballot papers to INEC office in Akwa Ibom state. According to report, a vehicle belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was involved in an accident on Tuesday, March 12th, at Abak along Ikot Abasi Road/School Road in Akwa Ibom state. Eyewitness says that the INEC pick up truck rolled over several times due to excessive speed while it was being escorted by the police Hilux.
