On Wednesday 6th February, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State said it had identified and deleted names of dead persons from the state's voter registers in preparation for the general election.   Rufus Akeju, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State made the disclosure at a press briefing with reporters in Akure, saiying INEC had already displayed the list of registered voters in all the 18 local government areas of the state.   According to Akeju, the total of 1,828,219 voters were registered in the state while a total of 398,958 Permanant Voter Cards (PVC) were yet to be collected. "This exercise (display of register of voters) was carried out in this state in the last qaurter of the year 2018. Quite a number of claims raised during the exercise were treated and names of dead persons that are still in the register were identified for deletion. The Coalition of United Political Parties has alleged that there is a grand plot by the Federal Government to implicate the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki; Senator Dino Melaye and other opposition leaders as the 2019 election approaches. The coalition’s spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, in a statement released to newsmen, said the opposition politicians will be accused of gunrunning. The police in Ogun state have arrested 47-year old housewife, Joy Egeonu, for allegedly beating the 11-year nephew of her husband to death on allegation that the deceased stole her N6,500. The suspect was arrested following a report by the deceased’s mother, Ijeoma Egeonu who reported at Agbado Divisional headquarters that her son who was living with her elder brother and his wife at Opeilu in Agbado was beaten to death by Joy on February 3rd over an allegation that the boy, Chibuike Egeonu stole the sum of N6,500 belonging to her. Egeonu added that the suspect later took the corpse of the boy to Ifo where she hurriedly buried him. The police swung into action and arrested Joy who told the police that the boy died while she was taking him to the hospital and that it was later discovered that the missing money was taken by her husband and not the deceased as suspected. The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has released a statement in response to the comment made by Kaduna state governor, Nasir el-Rufai, that anyone who comes into Nigeria to interfere in our politics will leave in body bags. On Wednesday, an Ikeja High Court sentenced Saheed Arogundade, Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Boundary/Aiyetoro Unit, Lagos State to death for the murder of a 32-year-old policeman, Gbenga Oladipupo. Justice Olabisi Akinlade discharged and acquitted Arogundade’s five co-defendants Mustapha Layeni, Adebayo Abdullahi, Seyi Pabiekun, Sikiru Rufai and Yusuf Arogundade of a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit murder. In a three-hour judgment which started at 2.35p.m., the judge held that the prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Arogundade murdered the policeman. Late Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer and songwriter who created a mix of reggae, rocksteady and ska in his musical compositions. He died on May 11, 1981 at the age of 36 from skin cancer. Less than two weeks to commencement of the 2019 polls, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the collection of Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) by three days. The party’s demand is predicated on what it called reports across the nation that some compromised INEC officials at the collection centres are deliberately refusing to issue the PVCs to voters thereby frustrating millions of registered voters from getting their voters cards. The PDP believed that this deliberate refusal to release the PVCs is part of the wider plot by the APC to disenfranchise millions of Nigerians and frustrate their eagerness to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 16 Presidential election and elect-in the peoples candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Wednesday that all election presiding officials and other ad-hoc staff for the coming general election will sleep at the ward headquarters of the area in which they are to serve as election officials. The Assistant Director, Broadcast of the Commission, Chukwuemeka Ugboaja, stated this while speaking at a three-day training workshop on election safety for Journalists organised by Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and the Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ).  Osun State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects over alleged robbery and beheading of a rice dealer. The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, made this known while parading the suspects and other crime suspects at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo, yesterday. Adeoye said the arrested suspects were contracted to kill one Isiaka Sanusi, a 43-year-old businessman, on May 14, 2018, at about 9 pm, along Iwo Road, Osogbo. He said one Yekini Ayinde, also known as ‘Abija’, (a principal suspect still at large) had contacted the deceased to supply him 500 bags of rice. He said the deceased was lured into making the supply in Osogbo, from Saki in Oyo State, lodged in a hotel after the goods were supplied and later taken out to be killed. Three sisters living at Badawa Layout of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, have died in their sleep after spraying insecticid The sisters— Walida, 22; Zakiya, 20, and Wasila, 18—daughters of a businessman, Alhaji Salisu, went to bed Saturday only for their lifeless bodies to be discovered yesterday morning. One of their neighbours said the young ladies might have sprayed insecticide in their room, which could be responsible for their fate. Kano is known for excessive mosquitoes presence, which compels many people to abuse insecticides to seek relief from their bites. Meanwhile, spokesman of Kano Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the tragedy, said their bodies have been taken to hospital for autopsy.

A middle-aged man, Kayode Michael, allegedly caught picking women under-wears and blood-stained sanitary pads, was almost lynched by irate mob in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The suspect, who was beaten blue- black, was reportedly arrested by the residents of Danjuma area of Akure metropolis.
