Michael Egwuagu, the former University of Texas football player accused of murdering his sister on Friday, can be heard confessing to the crime in a video recording that captured the moments immediately following Jennifer Ebichi’s death, according to police. “I killed Jennifer,” Michael, 25, can be heard saying in footage captured by a doorbell camera as he left Ebichi’s home outside Pflugerville. The 32-year-old deceased was in her first trimester of pregnancy. Martin Egwuagu, Michael‘ older brother and Ebichi’s twin, told police that he received a text message from Jennifer around 5:30 a.m. Friday stating that Michael “was at the residence and was having a crisis.”  Martin then spoke with his brother on the phone in an attempt to calm him down when he heard him make several strange statements. Then around 4:10 p.m., he received another text from his sister asking him to come to the house, when he arrived, he saw a woman he recognized as a member of the church he attends standing on

A yet-to-be identified lady was found dead underneath a hotel bed in Owerri the capital of Imo State.  Eyewitnesses claimed the incident occurred last weekend at a popular hotel along World Bank Road in Owerri, and a cleaner reportedly found the corpse. It was further learnt that  identifying the girl has been quite difficult, as the killer who is also yet to be identified fled with her belongings including her clothes and underwear.  The Imo State Police Command are reportedly investigating the incident suspected to be a case of ritual killing. Reports coming in has it that the convener of the #RevolutionNow campaign, Omoyele Sowore has been arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS). According to Sahara Reporters, also owned by the activist, it was gathered that he was picked up in the early hours of Saturday. Sowore had reportedly tweeted at exactly 1:25am ”DSS invades Sowore’s” while an eyewitness confirmed that his phone had been forcefully taken away from him. The arrest may not be unconnected with the planned staging of #RevolutionNow campaign which is scheduled for Monday August 5th across the country.

The Federal Government has obtained a court order to proscribe the  Shiites’ organisation formally referred to as the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the proscription of the Shiites’ movement as protests by the Islamic organisation rock Abuja. It was reported that  Justice Nkeonye Maha issued the order in a ruling in which  she also designated the activities of the Shiite organisation in any part of Nigeria “as acts of terrorism and illegality.” The court restrained “any person or group of persons” from participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the IMN “under any name or platform” in Nigeria. To complete the process of the proscription of the group, the court ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation “to publish the order proscribing the respondent (Islamic Movement in Nigeria) in the official gazette and two national dailies.” The judge gave the order following an ex parte application by the Federal Go

A member of the National Youth Services Corps, Dr Chimnecherem Onyeachu, serving at the General Hospital, Omu-Aran in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has treated 150 pupils drawn from different secondary schools in the council area of eye ailment. The three-day eye treatment programme, which ended on Wednesday, was organised by Onyeachu as his community development project in conjunction with a member of the House of Representatives representing Irepodun /Isin /Ekiti /Oke-Ero federal constituency, Raheem Olawuyi. The new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, has revealed that vicious termites destroyed his primary school certificate. According to Premiumtimes, Mr Muhammad said the termites invaded his home in Bauchi State in 1998 and devoured all documents inside beyond recovery. “No portion of the certificate was salvaged,” he said. The claim is reportedly contained in an affidavit which he submitted to the Senate last week to be confirmed as the head of the Supreme Court.

Bandits on Tuesday evening blocked the Ajebo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and kidnapped three persons. The Chief Medical Director of the Lafia Hospital, Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State, Dr. Oladipupo Sule, in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday said his son, Kayode and two members of staff of the hospital were kidnapped during the attack. According to him, the kidnapped members of staff are Opeyemi Abifarin and Dele Adigun. Our correspondent gathered that the kidnappers blocked the road around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and abducted their victims The hospital’s vehicle, a Toyota Sienna car, in which the victims were travelling as of the time of the incident, was abandoned by the kidnappers. The CMD said the vehicle had been recovered by the policemen at the Ogunmakin Police Station in Ogun State. The United States has imposed visa restrictions on some Nigerians for undermining the democratic process in the country during the 2019 general elections. It explained that the affected individuals, who were not identified, operated with impunity at the expense of Nigerians and undermined democratic principles and human rights. Those affected include individuals indicted for electoral violence, rigging and other anti-democratic activities before, during and after the 2019 elections. The spokesman for the US Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, who disclosed this in a statement in Washington on Tuesday, explained that the visa restrictions would affect Nigerians believed to be responsible for undermining democracy in Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, swore in Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria. The swearing-in took place at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, according to the verified Twitter handle of the Presidency. Tanko Muhammad’s appointment as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria was confirmed by the Senate during last Wednesday session.  Muhammad has been acting CJN since January 25 when the then CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was suspended from office over alleged corrupt practices. The Federal Government has set aside July 25 of every year as national diaspora day in recognition of the contributions of Nigerians in diaspora towards national development. This was disclosed in Abuja on Tuesday by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission. The NIDCOM Media Coordinator, Abdul-rahman Balogun, in a statement, explained that the commission planned to host the 2019 National Diaspora Day celebrations in collaboration with the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa and the Nigerians in Diaspora Alumni Network. The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has paid his last respect to Mr. Precious Owolabi, a corps member who had his primary assignment with the Channels TV Abuja office. Ibrahim inspected Owolabi’s body shortly before it was removed from the National Hospital Abuja, on Tuesday, for homeward journey. A candidate for the Mississippi state legislature, Carl Robinson, shot dead his wife, Latoya Thompson, and then killed himself after he was served with divorce papers. According to New York Daily News , Robinson, who was set to participate in the Democratic party primary election in August killed his estranged wife, Thompson at a Potts Camp medical clinic where she was a receptionist. Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson told reporters that the man had just received divorce papers from Thompson. The woman’s co-workers tried to save her, but she died as emergency personnel were bringing her to a helicopter to take her to a hospital, Dickerson said. Robinson was the executive director of the Commission on Aging and was running for the 5th district of the Mississippi House of Representatives.

Commercial activities around the popular Banex Plaza, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, were brought to a halt on Tuesday when policemen fired several shots in an attempt to disperse protesting members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria. It was learnt that the members of the IMN who belong to the Shi’ite Islamic sect, had gathered at Wuse 2 to embark on another round of protest when policemen fired shots to disperse them. Some of the Shi’ites were said to have fled into Banex, which is known for the sale of computers and tech gadgets. The policemen were said to have chased after them, while traders and bystanders ran into shops to avoid being caught in the crossfire. The clash between the policemen and Shi’ites reached a climax on Monday, leading to the death of a Channels Television reporter, Precious Owolabi, who was also a National Youth Service Corps member. Two men, Ismail Abdulmumin, 35, and Sani Haruna, 20, have been arraigned before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling their neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter. Abulmumin, a labourer, and Haruna, a businessman, both of the Tundun Ali Quarter, Dandume, allegedly committed the offence on May 16, 2019. The police accused the duo of luring the victim to an uncompleted building where she was molested. It was gathered that the father of the victim, Isah Abdullahi, reported the incident at the Dandume Police Station on May 17, 2019, which led to the arrest of the accused persons. Abdullahi told the police that the girl’s mother informed him about the incident prompting him to lodge a formal complaint. The suspects were said to have confessed during interrogation to having had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim. The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, said the suspects were being charged in accordance with sections 97 and 283 of the Penal Code

Teachers and pupils have deserted primary and secondary schools in Alabata villages in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State following attacks by suspected herdsmen.  The PUNCH  gathered that the schools had been deserted since the attacks reportedly carried out by herdsmen on some of the villages. H erdsmen had invaded Seriki village in Alabata and hacked a 76-year village head, Chief Akanmu Laisi, to death about a month ago. He rdsmen also carried out an attack on Adao village in Alabama  and stabbed a 49-year-old  farmer,  Rafiu Showemimo, to death a week ago. Following the attacks by herdsmen, all the schools in the schools have been deserted by pupils, teachers and headmasters to avoid being victims attacked.
