Two individuals have been apprehended by the Ondo Police Command in connection with the disappearance of a newborn baby and the baby's placenta in Isua, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, has identified the arrested suspects as 40-year-old herbalist Akinjise Ifeoluwa and 66-year-old grandmother of the missing baby, Oyewole Margaret.
Odunlami explained that the baby and placenta went missing while the mother was unconscious after giving birth. According to the statement, the incident was reported on December 1, 2023, as a suspected murder case at Isua Division. The complainant, Oyewale Oluwaseun, raised concerns about his sister, who, after giving birth, could not provide a satisfactory account of the baby's whereabouts. The sister claimed the baby had died and was buried with their mother's assistance without informing other family members.
The police later arrested an individual in connection with the case. During the investigation, it was revealed that the missing baby's mother, Oyewole Margaret, had entrusted the baby's care to a native doctor named Akinjise Ifeoluwa, who also claimed to be a prophet.
The mother of the missing baby shared her experience, disclosing that after getting pregnant by Akinjise, he instructed her to kill the baby. On the day of delivery, her mother and Akinjise communicated constantly through the phone. The prophet directed her mother to block the child's nostrils, allowing the baby to die. According to the prophet, it was considered an abomination for the baby to live, as it would result in the lady's death. The prophet alleged that the lady had been unfaithful, claiming she had slept with another man while pregnant for him, unless her mother wanted to lose her after 14 days.
After the mother regained her strength, she was informed by her mother that the baby had died, and both the baby and placenta had been buried. However, a visit to the purported burial site revealed that neither the baby nor the placenta could be found.
