Bandits' leader, Dogo Jede, marries Christian teenager at the age of 16 - Political Context

Alhaji Dogo Jede, the leader of a notorious bandit gang, recently married a 16-year-old Christian Gbagy girl in Aglunma village, located in the Kwusasu District of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State. The wedding took place amid tight security due to the presence of the bandits who had established control over the village's strategic points.

According to an unnamed source within the community who spoke to the Daily Sun, Alhaji Dogo Jede reassured the villagers that they need not flee their homes as he guaranteed their safety. In a symbolic gesture, he slaughtered a cow and shared the meat with the villagers to celebrate the occasion.

Alhaji Dogo Jede maintains control over several communities in Shiroro local government, such as Kwusasu, Chukuba, Nasa, Wurukuchi, and parts of Iburo. He operates alongside his gang with impunity, attending the Kwusasu market and praying at the central mosque every Friday under heavy gang security.

The villagers are aware of Alhaji Dogo Jede's gang and their activities, including their hideout in the bush, but they are fearful of revealing this information due to the potential repercussions from the bandits. The fear of retaliation prevents them from seeking help or leaving the area.

In a recent development, Dogo Jede lost some members of his gang in a battle against another bandit group attempting to invade his territory. As a result, he decided to enforce peace in the communities he controls. The people living in these communities are compelled to support the gang by providing them with food and financial contributions to allow them to farm. This arrangement is born out of necessity as the villagers have no other options for survival.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Shiroro local government, Akilu Isyaku Kuta, confirmed that the Boko Haram sect had raised its flag in Angwar Madaki within his jurisdiction. The chairman also stated that the bandits had instructed people not to leave their homes, assuring their safety.
