Abia State police authorities have verified the apprehension and custody of Bishop Timothy Otu, the General Overseer of Agape Evangelical Ministry, also known as Agape Bishop Timothy Otu, in connection with the demise of a female evangelist named Happiness Echieze. She was affiliated with a Pentecostal church in Aba.
Tragically, the mother of five lost her life under suspicious circumstances at a guest house in Ovom village, Obingwa Local Government Area. The police spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the arrest and informed the media that the suspect had been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probing. The deceased's body was deposited at a missionary hospital’s morgue in Ogbor Hill area of Aba.
According to the statement released, on August 13, 2023, at around 9:30 AM, Godwin Akpan reported to Isiala Ngwa Police Division about an incident. It was disclosed that on the evening of August 12, 2023, around 9:25 PM, Bishop Timothy Otu, associated with Agape Evangelical Ministry, and Happiness Echieze from Isiala Ngwa LGA, had checked into Jubilee Guest House. Sadly, later that night at around 12:00 AM, Mr. Akpan discovered the lifeless body of Happiness Echieze in the clergyman's hotel room. The woman, aged 43, was found unclothed, with a white substance emitting from her mouth and nose.
Chinaka emphasized that the police command has initiated preliminary investigations into the matter.
