A 23-year-old reporter passes away following a 30-foot fall from a rope swing in an unexpected incident.

A tragic incident occurred on August 12 when a 23-year-old American journalist and New York University graduate named Kathryn Hoedt lost her life during an unfortunate rope-swinging accident. Witnesses reported that she fell approximately 30 feet from the rope swing, landing on rocks along the shoreline of Folsom Lake, which is located just 24 miles outside Sacramento, California. Friends who were present at the scene assisted in moving her to a nearby boat ramp where park officials were stationed.
Although an off-duty doctor administered CPR, Kathryn Hoedt's life couldn't be saved, and she was transported to a Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. Her educational journey included graduating from San Jose State University in 2021 and earning her Master's degree from New York University in 2022. Joining KCRA 3 in October 2022, she contributed to the station's morning show.
KCRA 3 News Director Derek Schnell expressed the team's sorrow, highlighting Kathryn's vibrant personality, enthusiasm, and infectious laughter that illuminated the newsroom. He also emphasized her dedication to journalism and community service, noting her promising future and the significant loss her absence represents.
The KCRA 3 news station honored Kathryn's memory, stating on its website that her colleagues universally regarded her as one of the kindest individuals they had ever collaborated with.
