In preparation for the main pilgrimage scheduled for 2023 to Rome and Greece, the delegation from the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, along with state pilgrimage leaders and managers, arrived in Rome, Italy on Saturday for a preliminary visit.
According to a statement released by the NCPC Spokesperson, Celestine Toruka, on Sunday, the delegation's purpose is to explore significant holy sites and assess hotels intended for use by prospective pilgrims in the upcoming exercise, set to begin early next year. The delegation is under the leadership of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Rev Dr Yakubu Pam.
The statement outlined that the delegation plans to inspect and visit key Biblical holy sites in Rome and Greece, with a four-night stay in Rome before proceeding to Greece. During their time in Rome, the delegation will visit locations such as Mamertine Prison, St. Peter’s Basilica, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, and Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, among others.
It is noteworthy that the decision to consider Rome and Greece as the next pilgrimage destinations for the December 2023 main pilgrimage exercise was made by the commission and the state’s pilgrimage leaders and managers. This decision stems from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, leading to the pre-visit to Rome and Greece.
