Manchester United on mason greenwood rape case

When footballers commit a crime, they should be tried and tested against the law just like everybody else — Mason Greenwood is no exception

Mason Greenwood’s actions are not a game and he should be held accountable if found guilty.

I’m in shock. It’s absolutely sickening to see and hear the contents coming from Harriet Robson’s Instagram this morning. Mason Greenwood, who has had the love of the Manchester United fanbase since his debut on the 10th of March 2019, has ripped all of that away.

For those who are not aware, Harriet Robson has accused Mason Greenwood of domestic abuse through images on her social media account, with videos that followed which suggested that the footballer was attempting to force Harriet Robson to have sexual intercourse. The images and video have since been deleted from the social media platform.

We’ve just received a statement from the club and there will be an investigation to follow, but the writing is already on the wall. If the images provided on Instagram did not twist your stomach, where Harriet Robson had a busted mouth and bruises across her body, the subsequent audio messages from her account certainly would have.

“Move your f*cking legs up… I don’t give a f*ck what you want you little sh*t” is just one of the vile things heard from the audio when Harriet was refusing to have sex.

“I’m gonna f*ck you, you t*at. I don’t care, you will f*cking have sex with me, do you hear me?” is another. It’s difficult to listen to, simply because this is the lowest of the low.

This isn’t some game, either. I’ve seen some tweets online where people seem to forget that this is real life. That’s a real girl, who felt that the world needed to know about the other side of Mason Greenwood, which suggests this is not the first vile incident that has occurred. The victim has finally stepped up and people should not treat it as a separate life, this is real life, and he needs to be punished if guilty.

Not only should he be banished from stepping foot on the Old Trafford pitch ever again, but he should be answering to the law. An investigation must take place immediately, and actions taken afterwards. When footballers commit a crime, they should be tried and tested against the law just like everybody else — Mason Greenwood is no exception.

However, most importantly, we should take a step backwards and completely take the man out of the picture. The victim also needs and deserves support throughout this period.

Personally, I feel horrified at this news, but also hugely disappointed that this is who Manchester United’s ‘starboy’ really is. Some of us have been following the development of this man’s football journey for the last three or four years, blind to the fact of what kind of person he was becoming outside of the pitch. It’s truly shocking.

There will be trolls online that will somehow use this situation in a distasteful way, but the majority will turn on the once loved superstar due to his revolting actions, not because it will fuel some sort of agenda.

An investigation will be held, and we will probably have more information on the situation in due course, but as it stands, there is enough evidence to show that whether or not he ever plays again for Manchester United should be the last of Mason Greenwood’s problems.

This is not a game. He should be punished for his actions. This young man needs to realise that his behaviour is and was unacceptable.
