On Sunday, Catholic Bishops expressed concern about the widespread corruption in Nigeria, urging the government to improve the economy and address poverty.
The Bishops also highlighted the alarming incidents of violence and kidnapping in Imo State and other parts of the country.
Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, conveyed these concerns during a sermon at a thanksgiving Mass in honor of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Governor Hope Uzodimma’s re-election at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri.
Ugorji emphasized the multifaceted nature of corruption, encompassing bribery, embezzlement, abuse of office, and various other unethical practices that adversely affect the nation.

A House of Representatives member representing Ideato Federal Constituency in Imo state, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has said that some South-East governors have failed to bring an end to the crisis in the region because they are benefiting from it.
