EFCC HAS PROMISED TO GO AFTER OUT GOING GOBVERNORS
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has concluded plans to go after some outgoing governors and other public officials after May 29.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, March 23, EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said more arrests would be made immediately after May 29.
According to DailyTrust, besides targeting those to be picked at the end of this administration, Bawa also disclosed that at least two ministries are currently under the radar of the commission for fraudulent activities that border on procurement processes.
“Currently, we’re investigating two ministries where double payments were made. In one of the ministries, the double payments, cumulatively, were about 20 contracts of over N4billion.
These were contracts that were done way back 2018, and then some group of people, so bold, came up with the same narration.
They moved the documents from the file, forged them, and then of course in conspiracy of some civil servants, raised vouchers and pay. How can that happen if we have digitalised procurement processes,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Yobe State says it has identified 24 inaccessible areas with security challenges where elections will not hold. Ahmad Makama, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, stated this at a stakeholders interactive session on Wednesday in Damaturu. He said security operatives had confirmed some communities in Gujba, Gulani and Giedam with security challenges that were inaccessible and not conducive for election. Makama said the commission was liaising with the communities for a more accessible alternative polling units to cast their votes. “We are determined to ensure that every eligible voter exercises his franchise, and are therefore collaborating with all political parties and stakeholders for a generally acceptable alternative polling units so that no one will cry foul,” he said. 45-year-old man hangs self in Bayelsa
A middle-aged man said to have hailed from Enugu State has committed suicide in Etegwe-Epie, a suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The 45-year-old man, identified as Oliver Osieme, reportedly hung himself inside his room in the community. Our correspondent, who visited the area, gathered that the deceased, a tipper truck driver, committed the act in an apartment owned by a lady he was cohabiting with, who also hails from Enugu State. It was learnt that the victim, his partner and a teenage girl staying with them had morning devotion before the woman left for her business at the Tombia roundabout, while the teenager left for school.
