A disturbing video of a schoolboy from Krugersdorp attacking a girl following a verbal altercation is currently being circulated on various social media platforms. The video shows the two girls arguing before the boy approaches them.
He hands something to the girl standing, and when she moves closer to him, the argument gets heated. The boy then pushes her with both hands, causing her to fall back onto the pavilion.
She retaliates by pushing him back, at which moment he grabs her by the hair and slaps her three times. A fight then ensues between the two which progresses onto the field, before the video ends.
Krugersdorp police detectives are currently investigating a case of common assault, but no arrests have been made yet. The police have strongly condemned any kind of gender-based violence, bullying, fighting, substance abuse, and stealing that may occur in schools, as these places should be safe for learners.
When asked for a statement, the school's principal, Anton Strauss, stated that they are not allowed to release a statement and that all correspondence should be done through the Department of Education.
Steve Mabona, the spokesperson for the Gauteng province Department of Education, confirmed that a Grade 10 boy had allegedly assaulted a Grade 10 girl the day before.
“This incident was captured in a video that has since gone viral, and we vehemently condemn the behaviour that was displayed.”
He said the boy was suspended today through correspondence that was served to his parents.
