NYSC: “a cornerstone of our nation’s corporate existence,” - Gov. Fayemi

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said that the National Youth Service Corps is a formidable force in Nigeria’s democratic development and governance in view of its role in elections.

Fayemi, who described NYSC as “a cornerstone of our nation’s corporate existence,” praised corps members for successfully playing their part in the 2019 general elections, saying the success of the polls was largely to their efforts.

The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Biodun Oyebanji,  spoke on Friday at Ise-Orun/Emure Ekiti during the swearing-in of 2019 Batch A corps members deployed to Ekiti State.

He said, “You will agree with me that the recent general elections would not have been adjudged free and fair if the corps members were not a formidable force to reckon with in the electoral process. Nigerians have now come to terms with the fact that NYSC is a cornerstone of our nation’s corporate development.”

Fayemi, who urged the corps members to contribute their quota to the sustenance of democratic governance, charged them, “As agents of a new Nigeria, you are to champion the crusade against social vices, such as youth restiveness, human trafficking, drug peddling and addiction, rumour-mongering, corruption, robbery that are bedevilling our society.”

In her address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, said that the 1,833 corps members deployed to the state comprised 1,085 males and 748 females drawn from all states of the federation.
