Leadership: A Life to Be Lived, Not Just an Official Role

Leadership is the social activity or process whereby an individual inspires, directs or is involved in coordinating activities of people and systems to achieve some set goals or objectives. 

Leadership is vital because it is an ability necessary and compulsorily required to resolve issues and achieve results in life, it is not an option not to emerge as a leader as it implies accepting to be defeated by life's many challenges.

 If you are not a leader in life, you are a conquered entity. For us to understand this discussion we need to x-ray exactly what leadership entails, by discussing what leadership is not we will grow in insightful knowledge of what leadership is actually.

But first and foremost we need to internalize a few important information about leadership as we have already began to enlist in prior paragraphs.

Every body has hidden in him or her leadership traits waiting to be activated.

Leadership is one of those precious values deeply seated within the inward parts of an individual that requires discovery and development before it rises to the fore.

One does not need to occupy a position and be conferred with a special placing in the society before becoming a leader, it is more of a call of nature and a burden that rests on the mind and heart of every human on response to the demands of life.

 For any body to emerge successful in this journey of life, leadership must be developed. 

Leadership must first of all be a consciousness, then an attitude before it becomes a character in the life any human being. 

Now we have gotten basic insights into what knowledge is, we shall discus other details of what leadership is not to enable us deepen this understanding. 

 The purpose of this memo is to birth an understanding that will provoke a launch into the journey of self discovery, resulting in making necessary investments and development of those hidden treasures within.

Leadership is not a club of few privileged fellows.

Even animals are born with instincts that dictate behavior every breed is known for, similarly leadership in human is not something a particular privilege of birth and position in society bestows on a few but an in born yearning in the self seeking fulfillment. In other words you can't get fulfilled till you accomplish the call to lead. 

Leadership is not an assigned official duty but a life to be lived.

The society has been flooded by actors whose leadership lives are completely divorced from who they are in real life, just like an actor in movies who is given a role to play and sets out to do same even when such roles could be exact opposite of who that person's personality is. 

We have leaders who preach things but don't practice them, leaders whose lives defeats the purposes they are called to protect, for example a lecturer called to instill known and discipline in students collecting bribes to pass the students in exams or demanding sex for marks, politicians embezzling funds entrusted in their trust, preachers of the gospel merchandizing the free gift of God etc. leadership should compulsorily be a lifestyle before a role

Leadership is not a self serving call but rather a call to serve humanity 

The evils like those earlier cited arises when leaders serve themselves or see themselves as primary beneficiaries of the dividends of their ministry.

 True leaders are selfless, able to put the interest of others first and measures success not by how much one has grabbed from society but level of satisfaction achieved in the life of the assigned populace.

Leadership is not manipulation but inspiration 

A leader must discover natural ways to motivate people to act in manners that produces expected results, manipulation is a negative tactics which takes advantage of people's weaknesses, ignorance and biases to achieve goals l, the intensions in those situations are self seeking, it does not lead to lasting and well appreciated results but ends in strife and conflicts, leaders make people willing and able to rise above challenges to attend enviable heights of success in life's many battles
